My work method regarding talk therapy

I work with a combination of different therapeutic methods, tailored to what suits you and your specific situation. One of these methods is talk therapy. Within talk therapy there are various elements that I apply during the sessions. You can read more about it below.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a combination of talk therapy and behavioral therapy. It is one of the most commonly used forms of treatment. In this treatment you gain insight into your thinking patterns. You investigate how your thoughts are related to your feelings and behavior. You will then learn how to transform thoughts that cause unwanted feelings into thoughts that do bring desired feelings.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
The focus of this therapy is on becoming aware of and changing the way you think, feel and behave regarding how you deal with yourself and others. This is done by learning skills that allow problems to be solved in a more constructive and effective manner.

Narrative Therapy (NT)
Narrative therapy assumes that the way people tell their stories determines how they define their identity and possibilities. By analyzing these stories and telling them in a different way where necessary, space is created for new positive insights. NT looks at your strengths and how you have used them in the past and can also use them in the future.

Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS)
Richard C. Schwartz developed IFS around thirty years ago. He regularly heard his clients describe inner dialogues with what they called ‘different parts.’ For all these clients, their inner world was characterized by 'parts' that often had positive protective intentions, but used strategies that actually produced a negative effect. Many 'parts' are indeed protection mechanisms that arose in the past to avoid having to feel certain pain. IFS looks at these 'parts' without judgment and seeks to understand why they are there and what is needed to return to wholeness.

Inner child therapy
This ‘inner child’ is a metaphor and represents unprocessed emotions from the past. As it were, there is an 'inner child' that still carries these emotions and could never process them because it was not heard. Pain, sadness, fear, etc. were then hidden away because you received no support. These unpleasant feelings and hidden pieces of yourself will then express themselves later in life in a way that is not appropriate in the present and/or that you do not even understand. Inner child therapy focuses on these unprocessed emotions by giving them attention and thus processing them. In this context, your attachment style is examined, how it originated and what role it plays in your behavior and relationships in the present.
